Deutsch: Ein Codex besteht aus Papyrus-, Pergament, oder Papierblättern zwischen zwei Holzdeckeln. Diese werden gefaltet und zu Lagen zusammengestellt. Dann liniert und beschrieben. Die Lagen werden auf Kordeln, oder Lederbünde geheftet, die in die Holzdeckel verankert werden. Zu dieserHeftung zählen auch die Fitzbünde. Hier dargestellt von links nach rechts: Ein Fitzbund, ein "romanischer", ein "gotischer" und "karolingischer" Bund, ein weiterer Fitzbund und ein Kapitelbund.
